What should I do if I smell gas in my caravan or motorhome?

Don’t muck around and call us straight away (from a safe distance)!

Keep flames and cigarettes away
Ensure all gas appliances are turned off if it’s safe
Leave electrical appliance and power switches as they are – a spark from a switch may ignite the gas
Turn off the gas supply at the LPG cylinder
Open all doors and windows
Don’t use your mobile phone in the area
Once this is done, go outside and stay away

What are the symptoms of carbon monoxide?

Carbon monoxide can be created if an appliance isn’t well ventilated or faulty. It’s poisonous and even low levels of this gas can cause the following symptoms:

If you breathe the gas in over a long period of time, you may be become unconscious or it can even be fatal.

Turn off all gas appliances and call us to inspect your vehicle if you have any of these symptoms.

Should I install a gas appliance myself?

You must always hire a licensed gasfitter to install any gas hob, water heating, oven, cooktop or heating system.

As experts in this field, we will make sure it is correctly connected, working properly and flued and vented properly, working well and safe to use.

We are authorised tradespeople and must carry a card issued by the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board. It is illegal to carry out this type of work if they are not authorised by the Board to do so.

How do I know if my gas appliance is working safely?

Your gas appliances should be regularly serviced and this will ensure it’s running safely and efficiently.

Gas and LPG heaters should be serviced every year. Gas hot water heaters should be serviced at least every two years.

When we carry out work in your boat or motorhome, we will ensure all of your appliances are working correctly and safely.

Consider replacing old appliances and if you can buy new, avoid buying second hand ones.

Do all gas appliances need to be flued and ventilated?

Yes they do!

All gas appliances need to be well ventilated and require fresh air in order to operate efficiently and safely.

Never use an unflued gas appliance in small spaces like a boat, caravan, motorhome or RV
Don’t use outdoor gas appliances like patio heaters and barbecues indoors.
Camping appliances like lanterns and gas cookers must never be used in unventilated areas like caravans, motorhomes or boats
